Erica Schroeder loves the support she has received as a longtime third-grade teacher at Northwest Elementary School. So it’s no surprise that her advice for students who might be struggling in school could be summarized like this: “Look to your teachers for support.”

“Always remember that your teachers care and want what is best for you,” Schroeder said. “All you need to do is try!”

Schroeder is a major booster for both her students and her school, and as a result was named a 2018-19 Mountie Spirit Award winner. The award goes to a staff member who emulates what it means to be a Northwest Mountie.

“You may see this person at every sporting event wearing all Mountie gear,” the award description reads. “Or this person may be on Facebook like everything Northwest. This person wholeheartedly believes in the Red and Black vision of GREATNESS and shares it with everyone.”

Schroder, who has been a Northwest Community Schools teacher for 19 years, says the support from fellow teachers, administrators, parents and the community is the best thing about being a part of Mountie Nation. She has a simple definition for success.

“Believing in yourself enough to keep doing what is hard in order to be successful,” she said.

“Becoming a mom to another child eight months ago. God knew my heart needed her!”

“Exactly who I am today!”

A stay-at-home mom.

“Be more creative and the ability to be artistic. I cannot even draw a stick figure.”
