NWHS Art Teacher, Mrs. Mckenna Bishop, Featured in Grand Rapids Art Exhibit- ArtPrize- for Hand-Sewn Tribute to Fellow Teachers
Mrs. McKenna Bishop, Northwest High School’s art teacher, has a featured piece at ArtPrize 2026 in Grand Rapids that honors her fellow teachers at NWHS.
The piece, titled “Name Tags,” is a handmade textile containing the names of teachers in the high school, providing recognition for educators who guide our Mountie Nation students in The Direction of Greatness.
Bishop wanted her piece to both recognize her colleagues and exemplify some of the necessary creativity found in the art room, a trait that is essential for her students to embrace.
Created entirely by hand, the artwork draws on traditions of textile craft, labor and community making while exploring identity, service, and belonging. Bishop started working on her piece in July, and the hours of repetitive stitching needed to create the piece signify the patience and care that teachers demonstrate on a daily basis.
Bishop’s artwork will be displayed at the Zeal Area Fitness Venue during ArtPrize 2026, which runs through Saturday, Oct. 3. You can view and vote for her display by clicking here!
Thank you, Mrs. Bishop, for representing The Mountie Nation at ArtPrize 2026!
