Northwest Community Schools Welcomes Hall of Fame Coach Tom Izzo to Launch the 2026-2027 School Year!

Mountie Nation started off the 2026–27 school year with an extraordinary guest speaker: Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Tom Izzo. On Monday, August 24, 2026, Coach Izzo joined staff for our annual Opening Day Celebration to discuss culture, leadership, and sustained excellence.
This year, Northwest Community Schools is uniting under the theme "One Team. One Goal. Great to Greater." a mission focused on elevating district culture, driving student achievement, and telling the story of our Mountie Nation.
We are so thankful that Coach Izzo was able to spend some time in the Mountie Nation this morning. Coach Izzo embodies everything we strive for as a school community; grit, trust, accountability, and a commitment to sustained Greatness. We are especially proud of the connection we share through one of our very own Mountie alumni who continued their athletic and academic journey under Coach Izzo's leadership at Michigan State University.
Our Opening Day event marks the official kickoff for district staff as we prepare to welcome students back for the new school year.
